John Sheffield, Chair of the junior section welcomed everyone to the meeting. He thanked all the junior committee, and other helpers for their work with the junior section throughout the summer. It was also encouraging to see younger members of the club coming forward to take part in the work of the junior section. He also thanked Isobel Williams for her work with the juniors on the basic rules of golf which will hopefully be repeated next year.
Coaching and junior competitions 2022
Andrew Sowerby, Club Professional gave an outline of the junior coaching programme that had taken place in 2022. Whilst the attendance had varied on Monday evenings it was good to see the juniors enjoying their golf both on and off the course. Visits had been made to four primary schools and Ullswater Community College by Andrew and Tim Dykes providing an introduction to Tri-golf. It is hoped this work can be extended during 2023. The junior committee and other volunteers from the club will also be assisting Eden Valley Schools Sports Partnership at the forthcoming annual tri-golf festival at Penrith Leisure Centre in late November.
The junior team had taken part in some inter-club matches during the summer and he thanked all the juniors who had taken part and represented the club in a very positive fashion. He also expressed his thanks to Rikki Lamb from Fairways Catering for his kind support to the junior section with meals and other light refreshments.
The Golf Girls Rocks programme had struggled nationally this year but it is hoped to make a further application for the club to participate in 2023.
Andrew also offered some junior coaching lessons during the winter which will help to maintain skills and confidence for those taking part.
Ellis McAuley was warmly congratulated for his representation at county level.
The junior competition programme had almost been completed and the format of 9 and 18 holes competitions will be continued next year.
The Chair thanked Andrew for his hard work with the juniors which is very much appreciated and valued.
Election of Junior Captain 2023
The Chair, John Sheffield nominated Ellis McAuley as junior captain for 2023 and this was seconded by Ingrid Mutch. He will taking over from Harvey Barclay who was thanked for his work with the junior section during the past year. Ellis presented Harvey with a club tie as a token of appreciation for his efforts.
Finance
The Chair reported on the financial position with the junior section. The section had been self- financing this year and this was mainly due to the generous support from members in the junior fundraiser. There had also been kind donations from the Lady Captain, Dads Army and Carol Raine whose late husband Keith had been such a good supporter of the junior section. Two junior golf bags had been purchased with the donation from Carol and these will be extremely usefulfor juniors attending coaching sessions.
Presentation of trophies
Carol Slinger, Lady Captain was present to present the trophies and prior to this she thanked all those who had worked hard to deliver junior golf at the club. It was important to see juniors developing and enjoying their golf at the club. She wished the section every success going forward. Carol then presented the main trophies to the respective winners and runners up.

Barry Rogers presented the Dads Army trophy to Fiona Villardsen. This was collected on her behalf by her brother Magnus.
The Louise Mayne trophy which had been donated to the club in memory of his wife by Alistair Mayne was won by Jake O’Hare. Alistair regrettably could not attend but he has been a very keen supporter of junior golf. Jake has been a regular member of the junior team and had made very good progress with his golf throughout the year.
